Yoga Therapy

B.K.S. Iyengar realised through his intensive practise and his many years of work and experience with patients that despite the occurence of illnesses, and in fact especially then, one can and may practise yoga. With that in mind, he refined the yoga postures and developed special aids. With a large number of illnesses, the worsening of the symptoms can be prevented, relief given and even a cure for many discomforts can be achieved.

“By loosening the ties of the psyche to one`s body and knowing about the energy channels one can enter other energy bodies.

– Yoga Sutra of Patanjali 3.39 .

What is Yoga Therapy?

“First there is lightness, then there comes light.” – Geeta S.Iyengar

Holistic Yoga today is…

The stretching and strengthening of the muscle structure.

Mobilisation and maintenence of the spine and all joints.

Attentive perception of the body in its organic functions.

Observation and calming of the mind.

Physical, mental and emotional relaxation.

Every Yoga practise therefore already contains a therapeutic approach at its core.

Yoga therapy goes one step further. As while different aspects are in the foreground in yoga courses – muscle building, mobility, relaxation, spiritual development – yoga therapy clearly focuses on improving individual ailments.

Yoga therapy can have a supporting effect, e.g. for mental and physical support during cancer treatment, as well as being the main method, e,g, for back complaints. Everything, of course, after consultation/clarification with the doctor treating you.

Yoga Therapy is right for you when…

you need individual support in the healing process or personal development process.

you have specific ailments and would like to positively influence them with the help of yoga.

If you do not feel group lessons meet your needs owing to your specific ailments, pain or mobility issues and need individual instruction and exercises.

The Back Therapy Course

The back therapy course is aimed primarily at all people and yoga practitioners with complaints and pain in the back.

85% of all back pain is considered non-specific, i.e. it has a multifactorial cause – too little exercise, weak muscles, also an hereditary slight deformity, overweight, as well as a lopsided, often sedentary occupation, or even a general dissatisfaction contribute to back pain. All of the afore-mentioned  can lead to spinal problems.

Precisely because non-specific back pain has a multifactorial cause, an interdisciplinary or holistic approach is required –  physical, mental (psychic and spiritual)

In this yoga therapy course, a therapeutic yoga sequence is taught using modified yoga postures to first relax the back with accompanying conscious breathing awareness/ guidance. Then the mobilisation to strengthen the back.
